Jan 5, 2010: Reliance Big Pictures first Bengali release in 2010 will be Rituparno Ghosh’s latest film Abohomaan. After extensively traveling the international festival circuit Abohomaan, Reliance BIG Pictures second film with Rituparno Ghosh is due for January 22, 2010 release.
Abohomaan has been well received at various international film festivals including Montreal World Film Festival 09, Pusan International Film Festival 09, Mumbai Film Festival 09 and Morocco Film Festival 09.
Commenting on this, director Rituparno Ghosh says, “Abohomaan has garnered a very heartening response from film festivals all across the world and is finally set for a theatrical release in Bengal. I am very eager to know how the cineastes in our home territory will respond to the film.”

Abohomaan explores the nuances of relationships as a much married Aniket, one of Bengal’s finest directors, falls in love with Shikha, an actress as young as his son. Shikha bears an uncanny resemblance to Deepti, Aniket’s wife as she was in her younger days. And thus begin the trials and tribulations of what was till then a picture perfect family with a father, mother and son.
The film has a superb star cast. Deepankar De, who has to his credit Satyajit Ray’s Shakha Proshakha (Branches of the Tree) and Agantuk (The Stranger) Mamata Shankar, actor, dancer and choreographer, the daughter of legendary dancers Uday Shankar and Amala Shankar, and the niece of Pandit Ravi Shankar and Jishu Sengupta, one of the most loved faces on Bengali television who was also seen in Shyam Benegal’s Bose-An Unsung Hero and Rituparno Gosh’s Last Lear. Young and talented Ananya Chatterjee with the sensuous Riya Sen whose debuts in Bengali films with this film.
Rituparno Ghosh has scripted the film while Avik Mukherjee is the Director of Photography, Indraneel Ghosh is the art Director with the film has been edited Arghyakamal Mitra. The film has melodious hummable music by 21 Grams.
Reliance Big Pictures maiden Bengali critically acclaimed film Shob Charitro Kalponik directed by Rituparno Ghosh, Bipasha Basu’s first Bengali film along with Jisshu Sengupta. The film received a lot of critical & box office acclaim during its released in India last August, the film completed 50 days at the box office in West Bengal.
