Mumbai, 16th September, 2010: Reliance BIG Pictures, the motion picture arm of Reliance ADA Group has bagged an unprecedented 17 awards at the 57th National Awards making it the highest for a production house in any given year.

Reliance BIG Pictures’ five films which have been produced co-produced and distributed by the company in Hindi and other major regional languages have swept awards across all major categories including best film, best actor, best actress, best popular film, best editor, best screenplay, best cinematography and many others listed below.

Kutty Srank: Produced by Reliance BIG Pictures and directed by Shaji N Karun Kutty Srank is the best Feature film of 2009 beating a field of 140 entries. Hari Krishnan, P F Mathews won the best screenplay and Jayakumar won the award for best costumes. Anjuli Shukla and Reliance MediaWorks have bagged the best cinematography award. A Sreekar Prasad won the Special Jury Award for best editing.

Paa: Directed by R Balki and co- produced by AB Corp Ltd and Reliance BIG Pictures, Paa won the best Hindi film award, Amitabh Bachchan won the best actor award, Arundhati Naag won the best supporting actress award and Christein Tinsley & Dominie Till won the best makeup artist award.

Abohomaan: Produced by Reliance BIG Pictures and directed by Rituparno Ghosh, Abohomaan won the best director award for Rituparno Ghosh, best Bengali film award, best actress award for Ananya Chatterjee and best editor award for Arghyakamal Mitra.

Well Done Abba: Produced by Reliance BIG Pictures and directed by Shyam Benegal, Well Done Abba received the award for the best movie on social issues.

3 Idiots: The most successful film in the history of Indian cinema, 3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and released worldwide by Reliance BIG Pictures won the award for the best popular film, Swanand Kirkire won the best lyricist award and Anup Dev won the best audiography award.

Additionally, Reliance MediaWorks, a film and entertainment services company which is a part of the Reliance ADA Group has also won two awards. It shares the best cinematography in the feature film category with Anjuli Shukla for Kutty Srank and in the non- feature film category with Deepu Unni for Gaarud.

Reliance BIG Pictures all set for a Worldwide release of Initiative Film’s”Chak Jawana” starring Gurdas Maan on August 27th , 2010

August 6, 2010: – Reliance Big Pictures is all set for the worldwide release of Initiative Film’s Punjabi movie “Chak Jawana” on August 27, 2010. The film stars Punjab’s legendary singer and actor Gurdas Maan.

Reliance Big Pictures launches their first Malayalam movie Shaji N Karun’s “Kutty Srank”

Kochi, 20th July, 2010: Reliance Big Pictures announced the release of their first Malayalam movie Shaji N Karun’s Kutty Srank today. The launch was attended by the star cast of the film- Mammooty, director- Shaji N. Karun, music director-Isaac Thomas along with executives of Reliance Big Pictures and Manorama Music.
Kutty Srank, scripted by Shaji, P F Mathews and Hari Krishnan(screenplay), features the versatile Mammootty playing the male lead. The film also stars popular actresses Padmapriya, Kamalini, Meena Kumari in female leads. The music has been aptly composed by Isaac Thomas. Kutty Srank is among the first Malayalam film to be shot by a female cinematographer Anjuli Shukla.

Speaking on the occasion Shaji N. Karun said, “Kutty Srank is a movie layered with several emotions and shades which could only be brought to life by an actor par excellence such as Mammootty. Reliance BIG Pictures to release Raavan in 2200 screens worldwide

Mumbai, June 16th, 2010: Reliance BIG Pictures and Madras Talkies’ forthcoming film ‘Raavan’ will release in approximately 2200 screens worldwide on Friday, June 18th making it the first Indian film to release simultaneously in Hindi Tamil and Telugu versions.

The Hindi version of the film ‘Raavan’ is slated to release in 1250 screens in India and in 325 screens overseas in over 35 countries including India, US, Canada, UK, UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa, Netherlands, France, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc.

The Tamil version ‘Ravanan’ will release in 225 screens in India including Tamil Nadu, Kerela and Karnataka and also in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Nasik, Surat, Baroda, Kolkata cities with English subtitles. It will release in 150 screens overseas in Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, US, UK, Middle East Asia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc.

The Telugu dubbed version ‘Villian’ will release in 215 screens in Andhra Pradesh and in additional 25 screens in US, Australia and New Zealand.

Shaji N. Karun Profile

A graduate in cinematography from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune, Shaji N Karun started his career with notable directors in Kerala (India). His camerawork for films of G Arvindan from ‘Kanchana Sita’ to ‘Chidrambaram’ virtually defined the look of Kerala’s New Wave Cinema. Shaji directorial debut film ‘Piravi’ (1988), the story of a father’s grief over a son’s loss won the prestigious ‘Camera d’Or special mention at the Cannes Film Festival. Shaji’s second film ‘Swaham’ (My Own) (1994) which also continued the theme of grief was selected in the competition section of the Cannes Film Festival. ‘Vaanaprastham’ (the last dance) (1999) which dealt with the identity crises faced by an actor, was nominated in the Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section. Shaji has won six National Awards from the President of India and 26 International awards for his directorial and cinematography work. Shaji is also the first Indian to win the Kodak Award for Excellence. He was honoured by the French Government with the Chevalier Dans L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his international contribution to cinema. He has served as a juror on numerous international films festivals abroad and in India.

Mammootty Profile

Mammootty (born Muhammad Kutty) is a 3 times National award winning Indian actor who works mainly in Malayalam Cinema, however has shown his presence in Tamil and Telugu Film industries as well. During a career spanning more than quarter of a century, he has acted in more than 300 films as lead actor and has been successful in both mainstream and parallel cinema. Malayam film Kutty Srank is his first film with the acclaimed director Shaji N Karun, wherein he plays the title role. Mammootty received many major awards for his performance. Apart from the three National awards, he has also won four State awards and eight Filmfare Awards in the best actor category. In 1998, the Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema. Mammootty is also the Chairman of Malayalam Communications, which runs Malayalam TV channels like Kairali TV, People TV and WE TV. Reliance BIG Pictures to launch KITES music on 29th March at 9.30 p.m. across 40 TV channels to mark Hrithik’s debut as a singer

Mumbai, 26th March, 2010: Reliance Big Pictures and Rakesh Roshan’s highly anticipated film Kites unfolds yet another surprise! Kites marks the debut of actor Hrithik Roshan as a singer on the silver screen. To commemorate this Reliance BIG Pictures is launching the music of Kites on national television as a roadblock by airing Hrithik debut song `Kites in the Sky”, in English along with some behind the scenes footage on 29th March at 9.30 p.m. across 40 television channels.

Kites Soars High With All Time Record Opening

Mumbai, 17th May, 2010: Reliance BIG Pictures and Rakesh Roshan’s eagerly awaited romantic film ‘Kites’ will release on 21st May 2010 in over 2300 screens worldwide. Of these over 1800 screens are in India and over 500 screens overseas, making ‘Kites’ the biggest ever Indian release till date globally.

In its first phase, ‘Kites’ will release in India, US, UK, UAE, Australia, South Africa and 30 other countries on 21st May. In the second phase, it will release in additional 30 countries, which include various non-traditional markets.
