Imran & Deepika starrer “BREAK KE BAAD” being co-produced by Reliance Big Pictures & Kunal Kohli Productions

Mumbai, 20th March, 2010: Reliance Big Pictures is co-producing Kunal Kohli’s “Break ke baad” starring Imran Khan & Deepika Padukone

The movie is the first directorial venture of Danish Aslam who was first assistant director to Kunal Kohli on films like “Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic”, “Faana” and Yahsraj Films’s “Ta ra rum pum” and “Salaam Namaste”. The film has music by Vishal Shekhar and lyrics by Prasoon Joshi”Break Ke Baad” is a modern day love story that tracks a couple after their break up. Sharmila Tagore plays a pivotal role in the film as a beautiful retired actress. The film also stars Shahana Goswami and Yudi of Channel V fame.

Reliance BIG Pictures To Release ‘Well Done Abba’ On 26th March In India & Internationally

Mumbai, 22nd March 2010: Well Done Abba, directed by Shyam Benegal and produced by Reliance BIG Pictures is all set to release on 26th March in 370 screens across 9 countries- India, UAE, US, Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Mauritius.

The star cast of Well Done Abba – Boman Irani, Minissha Lamba and Sammir Dattani will visit various cities across India to promote the film from today 22nd March onwards which includes Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune and Nagpur. Boman Irani, embodying his character of a driver in Well Done Abba will drive a contest winner from his house to meet Minissha Lamba and Sammir Dattani at each city.

Well Done Abba, a lighthearted comedy film tells the story of a Mumbai based driver Armaan Ali, who goes on leave to find a match for his teenage daughter Muskan. When he returns to work after 3 months his employer wants to sack him. However Armaan Ali has a story to tell about a government scheme he avails to dig a well in his agricultural patch. Things spiral out of control so much so that the Government is about to collapse!

Mumbai, 12th March, 2010: Finally, we know why Kites is called Kites! Producer Rakesh Roshan & director Anurag Basu, makers of Kites (www.kites-thefilm.com), one of the most eagerly awaited romantic films of this summer disclose the inspiration behind their film’s title.

The title and story of Kites is the brainchild of Rakesh Roshan, the man behind some of Bollywood’s most blockbusters.

‘The idea for Kites came to me when I was gazing at the sky and saw two kites flying,’ notes Rakesh Roshan. ‘It looked very romantic. It was very intriguing–the way they came close, played, almost embraced each other and then drew apart. Unaware that someone else was pulling the strings and could cut them loose. I sat down and penned a story around this idea.

‘Kites is the metaphor of the film. Kites fly against the wind and not with it, stronger the wind blows, higher the kites fly,’ adds Anurag Basu who penned the screenplay and directed the film. ‘Our protagonists in the movie too face obstacles; their love grows deeper with every increasing obstacle.

Kites is a compelling romantic saga that goes beyond barriers, boundaries and cultures. It is a story of passion that defies every rule, of a relationship that takes two lovers on a thrilling journey filled with precious moments – and unexpected betrayal.

Kites is made in two versions, Hindi and English. Both will release on 21st May, 2010 across more than 60 countries. Shot in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Santa Fe, Kites is one of the biggest films ever produced in India.

Produced by Rakesh Roshan and to be released worldwide by Reliance BIG Pictures, Kites is directed by Anurag Basu. The trailer of the Hindi version will play on 1700 screens worldwide on Friday, 12th February, to coincide with Valentine’s Day. The trailer of Kites’ English version will be released shortly on 1000 screens. Reliance BIG Pictures to release Shyam Benegal’s film on March 26, 2010

Mumbai, January 28, 2010: After the astounding response to ‘Paa’ and ‘3 Idiots’ in 2009, Reliance BIG Pictures is all set to tickle the audience funny bone with its new year release Well Done Abba- Shyam Benegal’s latest film due to hit the screens on March 26, 2010.

Shot in Hyderabad the film stars Boman Irani, Minissha Lamba in pivotal roles along with Sammir Dattani, Ila Arun, Sonali Kulkarni, Ravi Kishen, Rajit Kapur, Ravi Jhankal and Yashpal Sharma.

Well Done Abba is the story of Armaan Ali, a driver working for a Senior Executive in Mumbai, who goes on leave. He wants to find a match for his teenage daughter, who stays with his brother Rehman Ali and his wife Salma. When Armaan returns to work after 3 months his young employer wants to sack him. But Armaan Ali has a story to tell. The story he tells is a humorous and often hilarious account of the events and happenings that delayed him from returning after a month. He avails a government scheme to dig a well in his agricultural patch. Things spiral out of control so much so that the Government is about to collapse! The story has been adapted from ‘Narsaiyyan Ki Bavdi’ by Jeelani Bano, ‘Phulwa Ka Pul’ by Sanjeev and ‘Still Waters’, a screenplay treatment by Jayant Kripalani. Ashok Mishra has scripted the film and written dialogues. Shantanu Moitra has scored the music while the lyrics have been written by Ashok Mishra, Swanand Kirkire and Ila Arun.

The film has won audience and critical acclaim at festivals around the world that included the recently concluded 6th Dubai Film Festival 2009, the 33rd Montreal World Film Festival 2009 in ‘World Greats’ Section and the 53rd London Film Festival 2009 in ‘World Cinema’ section.

Reliance BIG Pictures and Reliance MediaWorks shine at the National Awards

Mumbai, January 25, 2010: Reliance BIG Pictures’ films Rock On and Shob Charitro Kalponik have bagged three National Awards. The best cinematography award in non-feature film category was won by cameraman Shariqva Badar Khan for a 15 minute short film Three Of Us. The film was processed at Reliance MediaWorks.

Reliance BIG Pictures holds worldwide rights for Rock On. The film has bagged two Awards in the category of best Hindi film and best supporting actor for Arjun Rampal. Shob Charito Kalponik directed by Rituparno Ghosh, stars Prosenjit Chatterjee and Bipasha Basu; has bagged the Award for best Bengali film. It was the first film produced by Reliance BIG Pictures.

Rock On, produced by Excel Entertainment, directed by Abhishek Kapoor and distributed worldwide by Reliance BIG Pictures released in 2008. It resonated with millions worldwide and became a cult film that brought rock music to the forefront in Bollywood films like never before. Reliance Big Pictures’ 3 films strike gold at the 16th Star Screen Award

Paa’, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Luck By Chance’ bag total of 14 awards including Best film, Best actor, and actress

Mumbai, 11th January 2010: – Reliance Big Pictures triple whammy at the 16th Star Screen Award bagged top honours at the award ceremony. 3 major films from the Reliance Big Pictures stable ‘Paa’, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Luck By Chance’ bagged total 14 awards this year in all major categories along with the popular category.

The year’s biggest blockbuster 3 Idiots bagged total of 8 awards. Including the Best Film of the year, Rajkumar Hirani won the best director award and shared the best screenplay award with Abhijat Joshi. The award for the best performance in a comic role went to Omi Vaidya along with the most promising newcomer, while the award for the best actor in a negative role went to Boman Irani. Kareena Kapoor received Best Actress award in the popular choice category for the film along with the film bagging the best dialogue category award.

R Balki’s take on a special father-son relationship ‘Paa’ swept the acting categories this year. The Most adorable kid ‘Auro’ from the film Paa none other than Mr. Amitabh Bachchan received the Best Actor award along with Vidya Balan who won the Best Actor (female) award for her role as a beleaguered single mother. Arundhati Nag, who played Auro’s grandmother in the film, won the Best Supporting Actor (female) award. And Pratik Katare the adorable Vishnu won the Best Child Artiste award for the film Paa.

Rishi Kapoor won the Best Supporting Actor (male) award for his spot-on portrayal of a movie producer in debutant director Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance. The film also bagged Best Ensemble Cast award.

Abohomaan explores the nuances of relationships as a much married Aniket, one of Bengal’s finest directors, falls in love with Shikha, an actress as young as his son. Shikha bears an uncanny resemblance to Deepti, Aniket’s wife as she was in her younger days. And thus begin the trials and tribulations of what was till then a picture perfect family with a father, mother and son.

The film has a superb star cast. Deepankar De, who has to his credit Satyajit Ray’s Shakha Proshakha (Branches of the Tree) and Agantuk (The Stranger) Mamata Shankar, actor, dancer and choreographer, the daughter of legendary dancers Uday Shankar and Amala Shankar, and the niece of Pandit Ravi Shankar and Jishu Sengupta, one of the most loved faces on Bengali television who was also seen in Shyam Benegal’s Bose-An Unsung Hero and Rituparno Gosh’s Last Lear. Young and talented Ananya Chatterjee with the sensuous Riya Sen whose debuts in Bengali films with this film.
Rituparno Ghosh has scripted the film while Avik Mukherjee is the Director of Photography, Indraneel Ghosh is the art Director with the film has been edited Arghyakamal Mitra. The film has melodious hummable music by 21 Grams.

Grosses over Rs 100 crores in 4 days

Mumbai, December 28: Reliance Big Pictures which released ‘3 Idiot’s in 2126 screens worldwide including 366 screens overseas-the widest release for any Indian film so far – has reported unprecedented box-office response from all over. The film has set new records in ticket sales in towns and cities across the world. In just 4 days the film has grossed over an astounding Rs 100 crores worldwide. The film continues to draw record crowds and is setting new benchmarks for Bollywood films.

Inspired from Chetan Bhagat’s novel, “Five Point Someone” the film chronicles the tale of three friends together in an engineering college. What seems to have touched the right chord in people’s heart is the witty writing and terrific acting and the incisive look which the film takes at the education system in India. Shot on location the film has caught the audience’s imagination like never before. From a small town like Wardha to a city like Chandigarh, from Mumbai to Delhi and from New York to Sydney theatres have reported record-breaking collections. The film which has also been critically acclaimed has already begun attracting repeat audiences.
